Yaron Samid - Pando Networks
Hey, guys this is Yaron from Pando Networks. I am here at Web 2.0, the conference in San Francisco. We are about to demo Pando for you. If you haven't seen it, Pando is a new app that just went out of Beta, almost 2 million people around the world are using it and it solves a very simple problem. That is, how do I get a big file that I have whether it's photos, videos, a big PDF file. How do I get it from my computer to somebody that I'd like to share with? We think we've come up with a pretty simple solution of how to get that done and it uses peer-to-peer technology.

We have enabled people to do is email very large file simply by attaching the file normally to an email and having Pando to all that heavy lifting to get it from your desktop to the desktop of somebody who'd like to share that file with. So, let me show you how it works. Pando is a little desktop app that runs in your computer, it's a tiny app; two megabytes. When I want to sent a new file, I simply open up Pando click the send new one, a window will open up that looks similar to an email client, I can click to browse for files on my desktop. Let me see what I have here as a sample, Pando not only let's you send files, it also will let you send folders. I can just drag and drop here some photos, some photos I took of... the gates in Central Park -- we're in New York City company by the way. I'll dropping some birthday photos as well, give it a title, type in an email address. Robert what's your email address?

Robertscoble@hotmail.com and I could type in a subject and message if I want to and just hit the send button. Now, what's happening? Pando is basically, taking those large files that I have attached to this email and creating a small .pando file, if you're familiar with BitTorrent, a .pando file is similar to a .torrent file. As a matter of fact we took BitTorrent and extended it to enable this type of push solution for moving files from desktop to desktop, as opposed to the classic peer-to-peer pull model.

So, what's happening is Robert is going to receive an email in his Hotmail account with a small .pando attachment, a .pando is about 10 to 20K. When he double clicks on that, .pando file to open it up, Pando will be triggered to initiate a peer-to-peer transfer from my desktop to his directly, leveraging the economies of scale of peer-to-peer. Plus, also sending the file from Pando servers, which make a copy of the file to backup in case you as a sender is offline at the time the recipient wants to download the file. So, we have a hybrid peer-to-peer Web model that makes the transfer of large files even one-to-one very efficient, very cost effective and very reliable.

What we're really excited about is actually our new version, which is taking Pando from a pure private model sharing via email large files and opening it up, so you can share files publicly. What you can do with a new version of Pando is, send to the Web and what that means is, you take large file directly from your desktop and you can actually post them to any Website, any Blog, your MySpace page for example, so that anybody who would like to, can double click and download them from your website; again using all the efficiencies of peer-to-peer and the reliability of our service. That's about it and as I've mentioned, about 2 million people have tried it, we'd love for you guys to give it a shot, as well. We're at Pando.com, P-A-N-D-O, the product is free so give it a try.
